about
I wrote this lyric (well, most of it) the night Patty got out of the hospital after her surgery. I did it in first person because it sounded weird in second person. She's getting better, but she has another surgery to come, after which she'll be bionic, like Jaime Summers.
lyrics
It's been bugging me forever, since I was 35
lately it gets even worse, like stabbing me with knives
can't turn and look behind me, I can barely move my head
one unforeseen accident from being paralyzed or dead
now everyday living
knocks me on my back
I can't live how I want to
my life is a wreck, my life is a wreck
from this pain in my neck
they're gonna slice me open, from shoulderblade to chin
shove aside my tender innards, then they'll reach right in
replace the bony problem, with titanium
then sew me back together, 'cause that might help me some
now everyday living
knocks me on my back
I can't live how I want to
my life is a wreck, my life is a wreck
from this pain in my neck
I’ve got decades ahead of me
how will they be stacked
so many questions unanswered
what can I expect, what can I expect
from this pain in my neck
the operation’s over, they’ve finally sent me home
can’t speak above a whisper, I can’t talk on the phone
three months in a neck brace, it doesn’t sound like fun
then we repeat the process, I’m back where I’ve begun
