about
Paul Hudson composed and recorded a lovely acoustic guitar piece a while back, which inspired me to put some words over it. I sent vocal tracks back to Paul, and he expanded on the original demo. Then producer Rob Cooke generously became involved, and he and Paul turned it into this seven minute epic, with the assistance of a choir of 50/90s finest. The result is awesome, and I don't use the word lightly. My sincerest thanks to everyone involved - I'm honored to be part of this thing.
lyrics
I don’t have to make up stories
the truth is hard enough to believe
I thought you were waiting for me
you were waiting for the right time to leave
I’m just a cockeyed optimist
judging by all the signs I missed
when the plot began to twist
now that I think about it, now that I think about it
I was flying
you weren’t even trying
what was all my effort worth
you brought me down to earth, down to earth
It takes two to make a story
competing versions of the truth
but I’ve got nothing to bounce off of
you were obviously in it just for you
Looking back, as I recall
every time I tried to roll the ball
you threw up another wall
now that I think about it, now that I think about it
CHORUS
you brought me down to earth
you got me down to earth
you pulled me down to earth,
you shot me down to earth
now my memories insist
on reliving every sign I missed
when the plot, when the plot began to twist
now that I think about it, now that I think about it
CHORUS
