Original demo. I started playing in country bands right out of high school, during the Urban Cowboy boom, when you *had* to play country to get gigs. But I never really listened to any of that – my “country” background was definitely more the 60s/70s hippie variety. “Sweethearts Of The Rodeo” Byrds, New Riders, Poco, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Flying Burrito Brothers… This song is supposedly from that school.
lyrics
Behind the door and up the stairs
there is a room where no one cares
they try to sleep. but sleep won't come
behind the door, they're on the run
In the dead of the night
the faces hide from the light
but the dawn will come once more
and you can't hide behind the door
You've got to face what you've done
in the hard sight of daylight
under the sun
Behind the door, you want to stay
because the truth gets in the way
but we all know what you hide from
behind the door, your day will come
You've got to face what you said
you've got the sword of Damocles
over your head
Behind the door, you want to stay
because the truth gets in the way
but we all know what you hide from
behind the door, your day will come
